Anyone to share photos of SIT Flats at Princess Elizabeth Estate??

I live there for 12 years some 30 years ago but do not have any photo to show. Schooled at PEES where I picked up badminton and table tennis. Had some of the best teachers of my schooling days starting with the nurturing Mrs Lee Siew Choh (wife of Basisan Socialist Stalwart) and the good guidance of Mr Tirlok Singh. Off course, there was the ever sexy Mrs Olivia Looi - thinks she is just way to modern then with body hugging dresses ...

The 3 storey 2 bedroom flat had a large balcony and we had only 1 neighbour across the corridor. The best neighbour you can possibly have. What we did not have, they would share. I enjoyed Mr See's aviary of budgie, canary and burong kuku. I also enjoyed his large concrete tank of guppy, swordtail and angelfishes.

Then there was the telephone that we can use when needed, the food that Auntie Elizabeth shared..You know how good can peranakan food be.

Learn to cycle on the Tony's bicycle. Even slept out along the corridor with him on a few occasions. The corridor and the staircase is without doubt the cleanest in the entire estate. Why? Because we wash them monthly. No Hi-jet, just manual scrubbing.

The Sees even had a President Scholar among them!!

Sad to say, have not been in contact for a long while..

Went back to the Estate only about 6 -7 years ago and by then, the flats were long replaced by taller HDB flats. I have got photos of the HDB flats but sadly none of the SIT flats..

So sad...

  1. Hi Anti U,

Just saw yr comments on Lam Chin See's website about PEE. Yes, I do have some pictures of the old estate we all so fondly rememeber. I too lived at Blk 21 Princess Anne Hill 01-126. The corner house beside PEES and behind the bus terminal. We probably know each other, if not by name now then by sight haha. If I am not wrong you are at the other corner on the top floor from me. Mrs Lee was my form teacher in Primary 3 (1963) but Tirlok Singh was never my teacher (He was my younger sis' form teacher when she was in Pri 4). I still see the See sisters in church now and then (St Mary of the Angels) and I think you are refering to Elizabeth as the Scholar?

I'll go dig up my old treasures and see if I can post you some pictures of the old SIT flats.

By the way, my blogs are are http://fujiwara-kankoo.blogspot.com and hjtann.blogspot.com

    regards

  2. Hi James and Antiu...I lived in the block facing the bus terminal. In fact, my other four siblings and I went to PEES. I was the 2nd last to attend and served my time between 1967-1972. I distinctly remember Tirlok Singh as he trained a batch of us that ran for school. Tough cookie he was, and a good one as well. Incidentally, a dozen of my mates meet monthly, and we are seeking ex-mates, others who studied there, including friends or acquaintances that lived in Princess Elizabeth Estate. Please contact me at 9180 8192 or at gregoryphua@yahoo.com.sg

Would love to hear from you.

    Greg

PS Antiu...is your family name Shum? And if it is, do you have a sister Shoen Li? We are trying to track her.
